No. 324, May/June 2025
In our cover story this issue, composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir and cellist Johannes Moser discuss the creation of a new concerto—the first Thorvaldsdottir has written. The process has involved a great deal of trust on both sides. “It wasn’t necessary for us to discuss it,” says Moser, reflecting on their decision not to collaborate directly while Thorvaldsdottir wrote the piece, “because she comes from the instrument.” Elsewhere, you’ll find a special section focusing on string pioneers (the Nashville Symphony String Quartet, Lise Cristiani, George Enescu, the d’Arányi sisters, and Domenico Dragonetti), a lesson on practicing unisons, and the chance to play a piece by Ron Carter.
